Does Professional Carpet Cleaning Remove Pet Odors?

With pets in the house, accidents happen from time to time. When it comes to pet odors, oriental rugs can be difficult to clean and maintain. However, rug cleaning is a great way to refresh and revive your home’s rugs! Not only will you get rid of dirt, dust, and allergens, but cleaning your rugs can also help get rid of unwanted pet odors. When it comes to removing pet stains and odors from your home, professional rug cleaning is the most effective method.

Caravan Rugs specializes in fixing all types of messes, regardless the type of mess, because they all have one thing in common—they leave behind unpleasant odors that are difficult to remove. We utilize our 7-step rug cleaning process to restore your rugs back to their former glory.

Step 1: Pre-Inspection

First, we take inventory of any pet stains and odors on the rugs. While inspecting, we also look for fading, discoloration, stains, wear and tear, pre-existing damage, and color instability, which helps us to determine the cleaning ability of each rug and any additional repairs needed.

Step 2: Dusting

We then remove dust, pet dandruff, and particulate matter lying deep within the rug using compressed air and specially designed tools.

Step 3: Pre-Cleaning

Traffic and heavily soiled areas are pre-treated. Unfortunately, discolorations due to wear, fading, or chemical reactions are not reversible.

Step 4: Agitate Fibers

Using a continuous flow of cold water, combined with a mild, 7.5 ph-neutral shampoo, we massage deep into the pile of the rug’s fibers which enables us to gently and effectively remove all foreign matter by flushing them out of the rug and keeping them from settling back into the rug again.

Step 5: Rinse

We rinse multiple times to ensure a thorough clean. The first two rinses with cold water remove all cleaning shampoo from the rug. For the third and final rinse, we add lanolin to the rinse process for wool rugs to help restore the natural oil content in the rug.

Step 6: Excess Water Removal

We use a centrifuge machine to remove any excess water through an intense and powerful extraction process. Once we have removed as much water as possible, we are ready to move the rug to our climate-controlled drying room.

Step 7: Climate-Controlled Drying

A fast and efficient drying method is crucial to eliminate potential mold and mildew. Climate-controlled drying takes place in a gas-heated drying room using a combination of forced air circulation, dehumidifying processes, and heat. Most rugs will dry within 12 to 24 hours.

We then perform a final inspection on your rug prior to returning it and we don’t hesitate to repeat any steps that might be necessary to provide you with the cleanest rug possible!

DIY Rug Cleaning Tip: Another way of preventing odors from becoming too severe in the first place is by addressing messes as soon as possible after they occur. Since most pet stains contain proteins that degrade over time if not properly treated, quick action is key when attempting to minimize the damage done by animal accidents on rugs (or other surfaces).

At Caravan Rugs, we recommend regular vacuuming followed up with our 7-step rug cleaning process to help ensure your home stays free of unwanted pet smells. At a minimum, we advise annual professional rug cleanings, so if you haven’t had a deep clean for your oriental rugs in the last 12 months, contact us today to schedule an appointment!
